Preparations underway for Darrell Issa’s Big Oil committee press conference.
It's mostly a travel day for Darrell Issa as he heads to Bakersfield for tomorrow's Big Oil press conference (er... hearing) extolling the virtues of poorly tested new drilling technologies and promoting expanded oil drilling. Before they do, you can sign the petition opposing Darrell Issa and Big Oil's plans for California.
Frack no, Issa!
Darrell Issa is coming to Bakersfield on Friday to hold a hearing that will help his oil company cronies make even bigger profits by poisoning our environment. Will you send him a message telling him not to frack with our environment?
Tell Darrell Issa to oppose fracking, not to help his energy industry friends.
Darrell Issa’s Big Oil Road Show
There seems to be a bit of confusion at Oversight Headquarters as to what Friday's field hearing in Bakersfield is going to be about. Last Friday, the hearing was "Pathways To Energy Independence: Hydraulic Fracturing And Other New Technologies." By Monday, it had changed to "Can New And Safe Oil Extraction Technologies Help Address Gas Prices?" And yesterday, it was back to "Pathways To Energy Independence: Hydraulic Fracturing And Other New Technologies." The renewed focus comes with word that the witness lineup for Issa's hearing will be Bakersfield's Republican state assemblymember and four representatives from oil and gas companies, including major Republican donors and representatives from Big Oil front groups.
Issa flip flops again (a few times) on email transparency
Since then, Issa has stopped pretending and gotten back to old form. In today's edition, Issa convened a hearing of the Oversight Committee to examine the intersection of the Presidential Records Act and social media and personal email accounts. He take this so seriously that he told Media Matters a few days ago that Obama's level of transparency on this issue is where the President has failed the most.
Darrell Issa: Drill, Baby, Drill
Coming up this Friday, Darrell Issa is again packing up the Oversight Committee for a trip to California. This time, it's a visit to Bakersfield for a field hearing asking "Can New And Safe Oil Extraction Technologies Help Address Gas Prices?"
When Issa critiqued Obama’s Afghanistan/Pakistan Strategy and more
Via the Oversight Committee's Youtube channel, a reminder that Rep. Issa wasn't always a fan of the President's strategy in Afghanistan and Pakistan. In the video "Rep. Darrell Issa Critiques President Obama's New Afghanistan/Pakistan Strategy," Issa told local San Diego news that Obama's new military plan in the region was "only half the answer."
