Issa extremely unpopular and other stories

~ Public Policy Polling has released numbers for hypothetical 2012 California Senate matchups, including numbers on Darrell Issa. It found Issa with a 16/32 approval rating statewide, and polling behind every tested GOP challenger except former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
~ The FCIC responded to Issa's concerns about their report on the financial crisis. Phil Angelides, who led the panel, said the commission lacked the time and resources to respond to Issa's requests as quickly as requested. The response is particularly interesting since part of Issa's allegations is that the commission improperly used the money it received.
~ The SEC inspector-general is investigating questions about office leasing contracts that may not have gone through the proper process. Darrell Issa opted not to wait until the established investigation mechanism runs its course, calling the leases "symptoms of deeper management problems."
~ Issa's long-standing issues with EPA regulations are well-documented, and it looks like the new Republican majority is taking up the charge. HuffPo reports this week on legislation
to ban the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act and expect to advance the bill quickly, officials disclosed Tuesday night.
The officials said the bill would nullify all of the steps the EPA has taken to date on the issue, including a threshold finding that greenhouse gases constitute a danger to the public health and welfare.
In addition, it seeks to strip the agency of its authority to use the law in any future attempts to crack down on the emissions from factories, utilities and other stationary sources.
That should make the anti-regulation polluters that Issa recently solicited for advice happy.
