It was during part of his 2009 media tour that he visited the Glenn Beck show to tout the first of these reports, and he was remarkably candid about his personal motivations and the important role that Glenn Beck played in guiding these investigations.
Both Beck and Issa were pleased to note that Glenn Beck's shows about ACORN were source material cited in Issa's report, and Issa was all too happy to brag, "I'm a partisan Republican, I make no arguments about it." And despite Issa's half-hearted attempts to emphasize the notion of facts speaking for themselves, he couldn't resist Beck's bait proposing a deep conspiracy between ACORN, organized labor, and the Obama Administration:
BECK: ...we are building a new exoskeleton and it is feasting on our republic. Agree or disagree?
ISSA: I absolutely agree.
Not done there, Beck's lamentation that "The infection is now inside of our own government" got an enthusiastic "Absolutely" from Issa.
The video below is straight from the GOP Oversight Committee’s own YouTube Channel.
This is hardly the only brazen, straight-line connection between the wacked out conspiracies cooked up by Glenn Beck and Issa's investigative priorities over the years. It’s more like the tip of the iceberg. And why not? Issa knows exactly who his audience is and where his bread is buttered.
He's promoted Glenn Beck golden boy Jason Chaffetz, putting him in charge of the key new National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations Oversight Subcommittee. And now, between Issa's attempt to hand over the keys of the Oversight Committee to rich corporate giants, his pandering to the likes of Rush Limbaugh, and Glenn Beck's yoda-like influence over him, it's increasingly clear that he's operating as an instrument for the true bosses of the GOP.
Nothing less than Glenn Beck with subpoena power, a terrifying prospect for all of us.
